Photographical lie, or about persuasion in photography
Małgorzata Jakóbczyk

The paper depicts the use of rhetorical – i.e. essentially verbal – rules and categories in the visual art of photography. It starts with historical and sociological considerations of the inner photographic contents, e.g. veridicality or pragmatism. It therefore explains the ways in which the photographers treat the represented themes, structure their enunciations and choose the linguistic means of persuasion by using different types of technical devices and recalling the composition rules. The argumentation itself is included into the narrative scheme of two opposite concepts and it occurs in the visual discourse in the form of metaphor, metonymy, repetition or contrast.
